Owls target Antonio keen to leave Royals

Owls target Antonio keen to leave Royals

Owls target Michail Antonio is keen to leave Premier League side Reading in order to get more first team football and further his career, according to Royals boss Brian McDermott.

The wing wizard has been a transfer target of Owls boss Dave Jones since his impressive loan spell at Hillsborough which played a key part in Wednesday gaining promotion to the Championship.

Wednesday have already had an offer turned down for their former loan star but are set to lodge another bid - and seem to have edged closer to getting their man with Antonio keen for a move away to get more first-team action.

McDermott told the Reading Post: "There`s been an offer, but we`ve turned it down.

"I`m not sure how much we have heard since. Michail`s view is that there are a lot of players in front of him, so he needs to move on for his career. That`s absolutely fine and I understand that.'

Antonio featured for the Royals last term but was always behind Jimmy Kebe in the pecking order, and his chances at the Madejski Stadium are set to get even slimmer with the Royals promoted to the Premier League.

He played 14 times for the Owls on loan at the back end of last season, becoming a fans' favourite, and he's high on the list of Jones's transfer targets this summer.

it says in The Star today that we are due to open talks this week. Fingers crossed. In my opinion our promotion push was not just down to the change in manger. I don't think that is a coincidence that we played great when Marshall was around, when he left we had a slump and then when Antonio signed, were right back on form !!!!
