Wednesday held at Doncaster

Wednesday held at Doncaster

Wednesday were held to a 0-0 draw in a friendly match at Doncaster Rovers on Saturday.

The Owls carved out numerous chances to win the clash with their League One opponents but they couldn't find the back of the net in their first game back on home soil following their pre-season training camp in Portugal.

Wednesday boss Dave Jones fielded a strong line-up, with Chris Kirkland getting his first start in goal and Marlon Harewood continuing his quest to impress Jones enough to win a contract at Hillsborough. Former Owl Tommy Spurr started for Rovers.

It was the visitors who carved out the best chances in the first half with Chris Lines, Chris Maguire and Harewood all having good opportunities to break the deadlock.

Summer recruit Dave Syers came the closest for Rovers but Kirkland was equal to his first-half effort.

The hosts came more into the game in the second half but the Owls still continued to have the best chances in front of goal, with Chris O'Grady and Nejc Pecnik coming close.

Doncaster: G Woods, Quinn, Husband, Spurr, Wakefield, Coppinger, Keegan (M Woods 66), Syers (Stock 66), Cotterill (Blake 66), Brown (Ball 90), Bennett. Substitutes: Maxted, Mullen, McCormick

Owls: Kirkland, Mattock, Llera, Gardner, R Johnson (Beevers75), Pecnik, Lines, Semedo, J Johnson (M Jones 26), Maguire (Prutton 84), Harewood (O`Grady 46). Substitutes: Bywater, Lee, Reynolds, Amado, Coke, Lowe.
