Owls boss satisfied with Rovers outing

Wednesday boss Dave Jones was satisfied with his side's performance in the 0-0 friendly stalemate with South Yorkshire rivals Doncaster Rovers on Saturday.

The Owls edged the game in terms of chances and possession but couldn't break through a Rovers defence containing former Wednesday full-back Tommy Spurr.

Jones put his side's failure to win the game down to tiredness and a lack of sharpness. The clash was Wednesday's first since returning from their training camp in Portugal.

The Owls boss told the official SWFC site: "We were good in possession and created plenty of chances and on another day it would have been a comfortable win but I thought we were a little bit tired, a little jaded and we could have been a little more sharp in front of goal.

"But having said that, Doncaster had only one real chance in the game and Chris Kirkland made a super save to keep that one out.'

Wednesday's next friendly match comes next Saturday when West Brom visit Hillsborough.
