Owls defender Jones set for Rovers

Wednesday defender Rob Jones is on the verge of signing for South Yorkshire rivals Doncaster Rovers, according to media reports.

The towering former Hibernian and Grimsby Town player was a key figure in the Owls' promotion campaign last season but is deemed surplus to requirements under boss Dave Jones.

And Rovers boss Dean Saunders has acted quickly to take the experienced stopper to the Keepmoat Stadium, with the move expected to be announced within the next 48 hours.

Jones signed for Wednesday on an emergency loan deal from Scunthorpe United in the latter stages of the 2010-11 season before Gary Megson made the move permanent, as well as making him club captain, last term.

The 32-year-old still had a year to run on his Hillsborough deal but is set to make the short move to Doncaster in search of more regular first-team action following the arrival of Anthony Gardner to S6.

Good luck to Rob Jones, top guy and model professional. Donny have got themselves a good defender who doesn't 'take prisoners'. Watch the nose though, not sure how many times it was bust or broken last season.

All the best, Rob! Donnys should be thrilled if this goes through for them. It also says something about Wednesday that we're selling such a quality player. What a change from our place in the market two years ago!

Ah, right, brinsworthowl. I guess my point was that we aren't hanging onto players with Jones' quality with both hands.
