Owls confirm Jones departure

Wednesday have confirmed that defender Rob Jones has left Hillsborough by mutual consent.

The former Hibernian and Scunthorpe United defender is expected to join League One side Doncaster Rovers in the coming days.

Jones still had a year to run on a Hillsborough contract - he penned a two-year deal from Scunthorpe United last summer.

But with new additions coming in to bolster Dave Jones's squad for the Championship, Jones has left in search of more regular first-team football.

A statement on the official SWFC said: 'Sheffield Wednesday would like to thank Rob for his services and wish him well for the future.'

One if the players who's arrival stopped the rot, turned the club around and made us confident. Thanks, Rob.

Came in and did a job, but would not cut it in the Championship. I thought he was a liability at times last season, and always preferred Llera and Bath. Still, best of luck Rob.
