Owls sign Preston winger Mayor

The season may be starting tomorrow but the signings haven't stopped at Hillsborough with Wednesday signing Preston North End winger Danny Mayor today.

The Owls are understood to have beat off competition from a number of other Championship clubs for Mayor's services.

The 21-year-old has signed a three-year deal at Hillsborough and the transfer fee was undisclosed.

"This club is massive and I couldn`t be happier with this move,' Mayor told the official SWFC website.

He continued: "I have played in the Championship before and now I`m looking forward to playing at that level again with Wednesday."

The Leyland-born winger has made 64 appearances for Preston after coming through the Deepdale club's youth ranks and also had a successful loan stint with Tranmere Rovers.

We must have a PR guru on the payroll who handles all the press releases: "Up you go, son. Big smile, deep breath and say the word 'Massive' at least once. You'll do fine!"

I'm hearing Vellios could be next from Everton ?
ecco owl
Vellios would be excellent at this level. Brother in law an Everton fan, and he said Vellios could be there new Rooney, when her first came onto scene. Not sure he's that good, but is ok. I would like to see us try for Michael Owen. DJ has done it before at Cardiff with Fowler, Bellemy and Hasselbank!!

There's also talk of Ross Barkley (DJ's Everton connections no doubt giving us the edge?). I wouldn't mind two promising youngsters on loan from the same club, they'd settle quicker, but remember last season with Tavernier? We can't have another club's manager telling us where and when to play their 'stars' and then recall them just as everything is starting to work out. Owen, Bexy? Forget it!! I'm hoping he goes to Stoke and pushes Kenwyne Jones further down the pecking order. Forget Bothroyd and all, Kenwyne is one striker I would welcome back with open arms!

Just heard that one also OM I understand he is signing on loan Monday

Kenwyne???? It's okay, andymac. I suppose you're on about Barkley. Still, no harm in wishing is there? Thing about Kenwyne though, if the deal was right I reckon he'd come!
OurMaurice
I agree OM I think his progression to the prem league was too quick not for his bank ballance but for his talent and experience. He needs to put on that Blue & white shirt again and we have lift off you never know stranger things have happened but it is a long shot

Maybe we should start a campaign!! Y' know, posters 'n slogans 'n giant ponytail wigs 'n stuff for the next home match. Seriously though, I reckon he's 3rd or 4th choice at Stoke, even lower if they do get their hands on Owen. If all this talk of Bothroyd & Campbell is to be believed then I reckon Kenwyne is not only a realistic target but a much better proposition and probably available at a similar cost.

Who's OM? I know I'll regret asking this but I had a few beers last night so I'm not functioning very well for the first proper day of the season!?
Owls That!
have another beer Owls That

Told you I'd regret it! Unless we're signing Our Maurice...
Owls That!
Hey, I'm available!! True, I'd struggle to go the full ninety minutes these days but what I lack in stamina I'd make up for in passion and commitment. Cheap too. I'd play for nowt!
