Bothroyd joins Owls on loan from QPR

Wednesday have completed their first transfer deadline day deal by bringing QPR forward Jay Bothroyd to Hillsborough.

Bothroyd, who's been capped by England, will join on loan until January and will be reunited with Dave Jones, who managed the forward at Cardiff City.

The 30-year-old is a proven goalscorer at Championship level and also featured 24 times for Premier League side QPR last term, scoring two goals.

His arrival brings Wednesday's attacking numbers to five, with Rodri, Gary Madine, Chris Maguire and Chris O'Grady all competing for starting places.

Great signing for this level. Look at those forward options. Hope DJ manages to keep them all happy and competing for places.

This the most excited I've been as a wednesday fan for as long as I can remember, I think we can definitely consolidate as a top 10 championship club this season, anything more would be a bonus. Draw or win tomorrow would be great start to life back in the championship before the international break.

Excellent news! Five attacking options, not to mention a defender who gets a brace from time to time. Yes, sussexowl, I think it's the most excited I've been too. It wasn't that long ago that we suffered from having one or two real attacking options.

Unfortunately 5 strikers is too many.My guess somebody will go before tonight.

Jones has already said ideally he'd like 5 strikers, vic, so think he's got what he's wanted!

Yeah, DJ did say he wanted another striker but I was getting anxious last night too (with those malicious rumours linking CO'G with Barnsley and Madine with Hudders doing the rounds!). Hopefully, that's the end of it and now DJ can shuffle his pack to ensure a combination that delivers a couple of goals each game.

He did say the magic word so he'll do well. MASSIVE CLUB, MASSIVE I TELL YOU!
