Owls sign Taylor from Watford

Wednesday have completed their second signing of the day in the shape of Watford's experienced defender Martin Taylor for an undisclosed fee.

The towering centre-back has penned a two-year deal at Hillsborough and follows the earlier arrival of striker Jay Bothroyd on-loan from QPR.

Taylor, 32, had been featuring regularly for the Hornets at the start of this season but will now bolster Wednesday's defensive options.

The Owls had brought Anthony Gardner to S6 from Crystal Palace in the summer but the former Spurs man has suffered early-season injuries, leaving Mark Beevers and Miguel Llera as the centre-back pairing.

But Wednesday's only clean sheet of the season only arrived in Tuesday's cup win over Fulham, with the Owls conceding two goals in each of their other four goals this season.

I'll be honest, this wasn't the defensive signing I was hoping for, but he comes with a good rep. The Watford fans clearly rated him and it looks like they missed his presence at Derby. Even Zola said he'd have preferred him to stay which kinda scotches my theory that he got rid because dishing out instructions gave him a stiff neck!

He is a good player as long as he has a quick CB along side him.. Taylors has no pace...
