Owls Trio Earn Call-Ups

Owls Trio Earn Call-Ups

Owls trio Chris Brunt, Glenn Whelan and Madjid Bougherra have all earnt call-ups to their respective national sides this weekend after impressive starts to the season.

Wednesday have a week off domestically, but will be hoping their international trio all come back from their weekend matches without picking up any injuries - and with a confidence boosting victory under their belts.

Owls new-boy Madjid Bougherra will join up with his Algeria team-mates for their important African Cup of Nations qualifier in Guinea on Sunday. The new centre-back has impressed since joining the Owls and has formed a good partnership at the back with skipper Graham Coughlan.

Meanwhile, Glenn Whelan will join up with the Republic of Ireland under-21 squad as they face Belgium at home in their European Championship qualifier. The Wednesday player of the month for August is currently on the Owls transfer list but is likely to be brought off it should his improved performances continue in the blue and white.

Owls' makeshift forward Chris Brunt will also be on international duty with the Northern Ireland under-21 squad. The winger will feature in two matches at home - Iceland on Saturday and Spain on Wednesday evening.

Vital Sheffield Wednesday wishes the lads all the best on their international duty, and they'll all come back hopefuly in one piece! Have YOUR say on this story on the Vital Sheffield Wednesday forum by clicking HERE
