Owls linked with Southampton defender

Wednesday have been linked with a loan move for Southampton defender Danny Butterfield.

The 32-year-old is way down the pecking order at the Premier League club and Wednesday are doing battle with Championship rivals Birmingham City for his services, according to reports today.

Wednesday boss Dave Jones is keen to bolster his back-line with the Owls leaking goals throughout the season so far. The only clean sheet they've kept was in a 1-0 League Cup win over Fulham.

Butterfield is keen for regular match action, with just one appearance to his name so far this season in the League Cup. He could actually feature against the Owls in the competition at St Mary's tomorrow night with Nigel Adkins expected to tinker with his starting eleven.

I think I can see the logic behind this one...

Have to disagree, I'm afraid. If DJ brought this one in he'd stick him straight in the side come what may. That means Lee getting relegated to bench-warmer and then 3rd choice once Buxton is fit again. For me, Lee was one of the few bright spots on Saturday and I think he's earned a crack at it. DJ should either 'coach' another defender to cover at right back or else train the youngster in the Development Squad with the 1st team until Buxton returns, thereby maintaining healthy competition within our existing group. So far I'd say DJ's record for acquiring 'ready made' replacements has been poor, and his loan signings counter-productive. His refusal to pursue Danny Batth being the prime example (just my opinion folks).

Totally agree OM fetching loan players that are no better than our own players is stupid DJ should pick what he considers his best side and give them time to gel why COG can't get good run in the side is strange. if it's not put right soon fans will start to turn on him ,too many changes every game...
