Owls Win Jones Appeal

Wednesday have won their appeal against Brad Jones' sending off in the Owls 1-0 home defeat to rivals Leeds United. The on-loan Middlesbrough stopper will now be able to play against Southend on Saturday.

The Australian was sent off with twenty minutes remaining last weekend against the Owls Elland Road rivals for bringing down striker David Healy to give away the decisive goal.

But Owls boss Paul Sturrock was fuming at the decision, and referee Steve Bennett after the decision which effectively cost Wednesday a share of the spoils in the Yorkshire derby.

Pundits on the live Sky programme questioned whether the Leeds hitman was onside in the first instance, with replays showing the Northern Ireland international to be in an offside position.

Sturrock also questioned whether or not the incident was inside the box, and whether Healy was in fact going away from goal rather than towards it - a factor which would have seen just a yellow for Jones rather than the red.

Jones was to sit out this weekend's trip to Roots Hall to take on Southend United with Chris Adamson deputising in goal but he will now regain his place in goal to strengthen the Owls team.

Still a daft challenge and he did the same against Plymouth but good to see him back between the posts he's been pretty good so far. I wonder whether the FA decided it was outside the box or offside or whether it just wasnt a sending off? Cost us the game!!

Just sums up what a t1t Steve Bennett is, and how on earth did he ref the Argie v Brazil game at the weekend? Its times like this when I move closer towards video evidence at matches.

Im pretty sure video evidence will come in during the match sooner rather than later. I used to hate the idea but Im warming to it. Decisions like that could mean the different between relegation and staying up for some clubs and the price is too much to pay nowadays
