Maguire misses out on Pompey move

Wednesday striker Chris Maguire has missed out on a loan move to former club Portsmouth after suffering an injury in training.

The former Derby County hitman was all-set for a month-long move to the League One club on Sunday but the deal fell through after the player damaged his medial knee ligaments in training the same morning.

Maguire has struggled to break into the Owls' first team this season following his summer switch from Pride Park and Pompey boss Michael Appleton said the player was 'desperate' for the move to happen.

Maguire is now set for a spell on the sidelines but Wednesday's allowance for him to move out on loan could mean another loan switch may not be too far away when he returns to action.

He enjoyed a loan spell with Pompey last season after falling down the pecking order with the Rams.

A real shame for Chris and both clubs - a chance to prove the Owls wrong and help Pompey out where he was hero last season after his super goal against the Scum.

Remember him saying when he joined that he was glad to get away from Derby because he hardly got any games, so no surprise that he wants to move on.
