Tudgay Hits Comeback Winner

Marcus Tudgay marked his comeback by firing home the winner in the Owls reserve team's 2-1 victory over Walsall in the Pontins League at Hillsborough on Tuesday night.

The former Derby County hitman has been sidelined for the start of the new Championship campaign after injuring his foot in a freak accident at a family barbecue during the summer.

And Tudgay wasn't expected to be back in the blue and white shirt for at least another month but could now feature in the weekend trip to Roots Hall to play Southend according to boss Paul Sturrock.

'If he trains for the whole week with no reaction he could be available for a bit-part on Saturday.' Sturrock told the official website, after being without most of his strikers for the kick-off to the new season.

Deon Burton returned to action for the first time this season in the Bank Holiday weekend defeat to Leeds United and has been working to improve his fitness for the trip to the Essex club. Barry Corr, Steve Maclean and Drew Talbot gave also been sidelined with David Graham going out on loan to Bradford for three-months.

Tudgay's premature return to action will be a welcome boost for the Owls but Sturrock will know not to bring the hitman back to first team action too soon after previous experiences.
