Barnsley close on loan deal for O'Grady

Barnsley are close to agreeing a deal to sign Chris O'Grady on loan from Wednesday, according to reports today.

Reds boss Keith Hill, who managed O'Grady at Rochdale, has gone on record as saying that he'd like to take the striker to Oakwell to boost his attacking options but told the Sheffield Star that 'there's politics involved and we're just playing a waiting game to see if we can get him.'

Those politics are believed to be whether Wednesday boss Dave Jones can get a new striker of his own in and allow O'Grady to depart.

Sunderland striker Connor Wickham, who played and scored for England Under-21s last night, is believed to be Jones's top target and if Wednesday can get the former Ipswich Town man, or another target, then O'Grady is expected to be Barnsley-bound.

Hill has long been an admirer of O'Grady after working together at Spotland but the player has been a regular feature for the Owls so far this season and is the club's top scorer with five goals in all competitions.

Any loan move seeing the striker make the short trip to Oakwell could include the possibility of a permanent deal when the transfer window opens in January.

April Fools Day has sure come round quickly! That's unless we'd SERIOUSLY consider loaning our top scorer to a rival who are only currently below us on goal difference. I mean, come on! No-one can be that stupid!!

I'm as baffled as you OM. I honestly think if we had kept the same team as last year and played the same formation we would be in the top half, like Huddersfield. Added just a couple of players - one being a proven goalscorer ( Beckford, penguin jones or similar) then the play offs beckoned. I have lost all faith in Jones now.

Also i do not see the point in loaning players we have no chance of buying unless its for 1/2 a season at least.

Barnsley have signed Marcus Tudgay

The only player who gives 110% and looks like he's actually interested in playing and we're to send him to the Dingles - DJ has totally lost the plot. Let's keep COG and send them a disguised Bothroyd.

a cunning plan Dooleys Left Leg, we have Baldrick in charge

Radon, I do not see the point in loaning players who are either a) plain rubbish or b) incapable of blending within a tried and trusted formation and then sticking with them in spite of that, game after game after game, whilst having a regular pop at the players around them who are clearly struggling to cope. I think I lost faith in DJ after the Bolton match and every time he opens his mouth to the media he makes it worse. Sad but true.
