Woody Agrees New Deal

Owls hot prospect Richard Wood has today agreed a new two-year extension to his current Hillsborough contract which will see the defender remain at the club until the summer of 2009.

The Wakefield product's contract was set to expire at the end of this summer and Owls boss Paul Sturrock moved quick to secure the services of the youngster for another two seasons after some impressive performances in the Owls shirt last season.

Woody told the official SWFC site: 'I'm very pleased. It shows the club was happy with my performances last season. I'm glad to be signing for another two years and to be offered a new contract while I'm injured shows the club want to look after me. I hope we can continue to climb higher and higher over the coming seasons and I want to be a part of that.'

The 21-year-old is currently sidelined with a groin injury picked up in February and is set to return to action in early October after a frustrating spell watching from the stands.

Wood has made 81 starts in a blue and white shirt after coming through the Hillsborough academy, scoring four goals. Last season saw him notch up 30 appearances for the club while forming a strong partnership with Graham Coughlan at the back.
