Everton recall on-loan Owls midfielder

Everton have recalled on-loan Owls midfielder Ross Barkley with immediate effect.

The 18-year-old has spent two months at Hillsborough but Saturday's 1-0 loss at Nottingham Forest will be his last in an Owls shirt. The Toffees have opted to recall the highly-rated youngster owing to injuries to Phil Neville, Darron Gibson and Kevin Mirallas.

The hot prospect joined Wednesday initially on a one-month loan deal but both clubs agreed to extend that by a further four weeks. Barkley featured in 13 matches, starting twelve of them and scoring four goals.

The news will mean Owls boss Dave Jones will have to shuffle his pack for Saturday's visit of Leicester City to Hillsborough.

Whatever he goes on to achieve in his career with Everton (and England if you believe the hype) he can look back on his time with us not as a success but as part of the 'lairning cairve'.

not sure if it will be so fondly looked on by some of us wednesdayites but for me it will be for the wrong reasons. IMHO the Barkeley loan period has in many ways dissapointed us me included. which seems a bit odd as 9 times from 10 if a team had to loan a central midfielder and he played 13 games scoring 4 goals and getting some assists too it would be a success! unfortunately for us and the lad himself he has come under the wrong manager. DJ changed our system to accommodate him and when it didn't ork he stuck with it anwyay. I think he will go on to great things for club and country but for us just the wrong time i'm afraid. I wish him every success for the future

What a waste of time and points. Rumour has it that Everton are severely in the financial brown stuff and are going to sell in January. If thats the case, this was obvious. Mark Hughes seems to be intent on getting the sack so lets hope he recalls Bothroyd to finish off the Job. Is Dave Jones on loan. IMO the who Barkley/ Bothroyd saga has cost us big timme.

ive heard that everton and other clubs are not going 2 loan to us anymore cos we playing players out of position has anyone else heard that? sounds a bit like last season with newcasle did the same. but if its true then he needs play rodri cos barcelona will do the same, but apart from that ive lost my faith in D,J we as fans can see that bothroyed doesnt cut it and we need to play with natural wingers.

Well I reckon DJ just gave Barkley the shirt, sent him out there and then played everyone else out of position in a desperate attempt to make it work! Nine defeats from thirteen says it all.

We should try to get Rob Jones and Tommy Spurr on loan they both scored in Donny's last match!

Or how about Leon Clarke? It'll never happen but as suggestions go it's not as daft as it sounds! I'd back him to score 4 or 5 goals before January and he'd be cheap enough to appeal to the MM/ PA consortium.
