Owls sign Manchester City defender

Wednesday have signed young Manchester City defender Jeremy Helan on a one-month loan deal.

The 20-year-old Frenchman can also play as a winger and has previously been on loan at Carlisle United and Shrewsbury Town from the Premier League giants, as well as represent France U19s.

He has been brought in on transfer deadline day with the task of helping Wednesday improve their sloppy defence - a defence that has kept only one clean sheet in the Championship this season.

Owls boss Dave Jones is without regular left-back Reda Johnson owing to a foot injury and Joe Mattock, signed in the summer, has failed to cement a regular starting place.

Owls fans had been expecting, and indeed hoping, for a new striker to come in and Jones could yet bolster his attacking options before the deadline, which is at 5pm today.

Helan has signed initially for a month and could go straight into Wednesday's squad to face Leicester City on Saturday.

let's hope he does a decent job! god knows we need a lefty till Reda's return

Let's get this straight, a French U19 who's played a total of five league matches for Carlisle & Shrewsbury? Well he's gotta be a better bet than Mattock, West Brom only paid £1m for him a while back. Then there's Beevers... or Bennett... or Reynolds... Say, don't we have any 20yr old left backs of our own? Probably irrelevant anyway, Dan Jones will get the nod come Saturday.

he can not surely keep sticking with Dan Jones the bloke is absolutely clueless on the pitch this is not a personal attack he's probably quite a nice person - but he can't defend he isn't any good with the ball or at getting into decent positions going forward! which begs the question why is he still there surely there is a league 2 side with £5 burning a hole in their pocket

Maybe Dan is a smashing lad off the pitch, but he's forfeited any Brownie Points that might have earned him by having a stupid haircut!
OurMaurice
but Jason Lee is a legend because of his hair and he was ***** too

He had a pinineapple on his head is he available for loan :-)

DJ's saying he tried to bring this lad in earlier in the season. So... Shrewsbury beat us to the punch then?
