Palmer pens new Wednesday contract

Midfielder Liam Palmer has pledged his future to the Owls by penning a new two-and-a-half year contract to remain at Hillsborough.

The new deal will see the 21-year-old, who is currently out on-loan with League One side Tranmere Rovers, remain an Owl until the summer of 2015 at least.

Palmer is set to remain with Rovers until the end of the current season, however, after already enjoying an ever-present campaign with the high-flying League One club.

He told the official SWFC website: "It`s been a great learning curve for me personally and it feels like I`ve come a long way since starting out at the Wednesday academy.

"It goes to show it`s there for the taking if you want it and work hard enough for it.

"I definitely see my long term future at Sheffield Wednesday but I`m really looking forward to helping Tranmere in their push for promotion."

The midfielder is a product of the Wednesday youth set-up but has already made 31 appearances for the first team and will hope to make many more after signing the new deal.

Does this loan deal actually improve Palmer's chances of breaking into our First XI or is it seen as a way of raising his profile and therefore increasing his value (see Beevers). I can't see Tranmere stumping up any real cash but if he helps take them up I can imagine one of the Championship 'giants', like Millwall for instance, offering a figure that's too undisclosed to refuse.
