Owls top Championship (form) table

Wednesday's impressive 3-1 victory at Hull City on Saturday night has moved them top of one table at least - the form table.

The Football League measures its form table over the past six matches for each of its divisions, and the Owls currently top the Championship form guide.

Manager Dave Jones has guided his men to four wins, one draw and one defeat from the Owls' last six matches, with the only blot on the form book coming from the 2-0 home loss against Burnley on New Year's Day.

Wednesday beat Barnsley and Charlton Athletic before Christmas to set the ball rolling and followed those back-to-back wins up with a slender 1-0 success at Bolton Wanderers and a 0-0 stalemate at Huddersfield Town.

The Clarets ruined Wednesday's run with a 2-0 win at Hillsborough as the Owls nursed a New Year's headache but, after a 0-0 draw at home against MK Dons in the FA Cup, returned to winning ways at the weekend by mauling the Tigers.

Wednesday may not have been freescoring in that run of matches, netting seven goals, but they have conceded just three - the joint lowest in the division over the last six matches.

It all means an encouraging turnaround in the league table, with Wednesday hauling themselves out of the Championship relegation and three points clear of Peterborough United, who occupy the final drop spot.

Jones, and indeed Wednesdayites, will be hoping that good form continues in the league against Wolves at Hillsborough on Saturday, and also in the FA Cup at MK Dons on Tuesday night.

I think this says more about the inconsistent nature of the division more than owt else. That and the fact that four of our last six league games have been away from home. That said though, it just goes to show that a good run would see us climb out of trouble in no time at all. But as andymac pointed out the other day, a drastic improvement in home form is what's required most of all. Our last six home games? P6 W1 L5, that's probably somewhere near the bottom of a form table. Still, let's enjoy this feelgood factor and use it to our advantage: A practice run putting MK in their rightful place followed by the more important task of reclaiming our once proud home record.
