Owls loanee set for Zaragoza switch

Wednesday are set to end the season-long loan deal for Barcelona striker Rodri, with the player expected to join La Liga side Zaragoza.

Owls boss Dave Jones has already revealed the club is trying to do a deal to bring an early end to the Spanish youngster's stay at Hillsborough to free up money to bring new players in before the end of the January transfer window.

That deal is understood to be way down the line and Zaragoza are reported to be keen on his services for the remainder of the campaign, with Barcelona said to be willing to let the player go on a permanent deal either now or in the summer.

Rodri, who joined Barcelona and played for Barcelona B in the Segunda Division after making the move to Catalonia from Sevilla, arrived at S6 with Wednesdayites expecting big things from the 22-year-old.

He lived up to them in his first appearance, scoring a fine goal as Wednesday defeated Birmingham City 3-2 at Hillsborough.

His chances soon dried up, however, and Rodri went on to make just four more starts for the Owls and seven appearances from the bench in all competitions, failing to find the back of the net again.

It's a shame really but that lairning cairve was just too steep! Still, in a few years time once he's become a regular for the Spanish national side, perhaps he'll look back on his six months at S6 and... Nah! What am I talking about... Adios amigo.

Probably the next Kovacevic, never settled at SWFC and then went on to achieve amazing things. Good luck, Rodri.
