'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Jones praises Owls' work ethic

Dave Jones was full of praise for his side's work ethic after Wednesday edged out Crystal Palace 1-0 at Hillsborough.

Leroy Lita struck nine minutes from time to grab a crucial three points for the Owls against the high-flying Eagles.

And Jones praised the work ethic not just within his playing squad, but right through the club.

"We are working from within and it is showing in all aspects of our game. There is a fantastic work ethic in this football club, from the chairman all the way down,' Jones told the official SWFC website.

"He loves the club, loves the place and it is a super place to come to work to. Everybody gets on, they enjoy each other`s company and that is a real plus.

"The supports come in their thousands, they make for a terrific atmosphere and we are all so grateful for that.

"The players are a really good group and they now have a real determined look about them and some real belief.

"They just don`t look like they are a going to concede, never mind lose, and it is credit to them for that.

"They deserve all the praise they are getting because they have put the work in and are now getting the rewards."

What a difference those two extra points make. A home win and another clean sheet against a much-fancied side containing the league's top goal scorer? Reasons to be cheerful :0) Also, I get the impression our Mr. Jones has been taking PR lessons. It's good to see the credit shared around just as it's good to hear/ read about our owner's ongoing commitment. Anything and everything that helps to reduce anxiety breeds confidence. Long may it continue.

Whisper it now but are the playoffs possible? We are 12 points away and since we made our best signing of the year (our new coach) our form has been fantastic, as has the change in playing style. With Lita and Wickham up front we actually look dangerous and it can't be long before Mr Wickham (last seen as the bad guy in Jane Austins Pies and Prejudice) becomes the hero in the Sheffield Wednesday book of honours. We finished strongly last year. Lets do the same again! PS Nick, please would you produce a version on the league table just using this years matches? This would make for very interesting reading!

'Pies' And Prejudice? I take it you're on your lunchbreak, bluedog. Or else called round the Bookies. lol

Seriously though, the play-offs? Our current run would put us up there if we hadn't given everyone else a 30pt head start before Xmas. I think the top 6 looks fairly settled but we're only a handful of points behind those few teams who think they're in with a chance of catching them, so who knows? It sure beats looking over our shoulders all the time.

lets just focus on staying up first, got a tough run of fixtures coming up!

So it's finally been revealed why we appear anxious at home and yet sparkle playing away... It's all down to DJ's work ethic!
