Sam Returns To The Valley

Owls loanee Lloyd Sam has returned to Charlton Athletic after the winger failed to secure an extension to his one-month loan deal at Hillsborough.

The 22-year-old was unable to take part in his final game of his loan spell on Saturday in the 2-1 defeat to Derby County at Hillsborough, and it's unlikely the winger will miss his time at S6.

Sam played four matches for the Owls starting with the disappointing 1-0 defeat at home to Leeds United, before going on to play in the draws to Stoke City and Southend and the defeat at Hull.

Owls boss Paul Sturrock told BBC Radio Sheffield: 'I'd have liked him to stay but we have other players coming back from injury. We are running over budget so if we are going to pay his wages for another month it would increase our spending.'

Both Sturrock and Sam were keen to extend the deal last week, but it now seems an extension would take the Owls over budget - and with players coming back from injury it's hoped the winger won't be needed at S6 in the coming weeks.

Bit of a damp squib after the exciting start he had at leeds

Didnt think he was even that good against Leeds. Lots of pace but too clumsy to control it! Not a big loss IMO

very like Eagles, lots of promise but no end product

Budgetary constraints so early in the season?

He was all wind and *****, players like him are 10 a penny, fast and tricky, but can't shoot, pass or tackle.
