Owls sign giant striker Atdhe Nuhiu

Wednesday have signed 6ft 6in striker Atdhe Nuhiu on a free transfer from Rapid Vienna.

The 23-year-old has signed a three-year contract with the Owls and his transfer is subject to clearance from the FA, Football League and FIFA.

Nuhiu, a former Austria under-21 international, had been tracked by Premier League side Crystal Palace this summer, with the striker having a trial spell with the Eagles, but the Owls have swooped to secure his signature.

He said: "I have had interest from Sheffield Wednesday for some time but as a professional footballer, you talk to other clubs, this is natural.

"But this club always felt right for me, it feels comfortable and I am very happy to be here.

"I am a typical box player and if I get the service I can score the goals.

"Sheffield Wednesday is a strong name throughout Europe and I am looking forward to starting training and playing with my new club."

Nuhiu had been on loan with Turkish side Eskişehirspor last season before his contract with Rapid expired.

Know nothing about him but prepared to give him a chance Sounds a rough diamond and must have something about him if Palace were taking a look. Another option

Well happy with this signing. this was written a couple of days ago - Palace are in pole position for Nuhiu but a number of other Premier League sides are showing interest - We played the second half of last season in play off form and only need a few quality signings and I am happy with what we have done so far. DJ seems unfazed and doesn't panic buy. MM would be mad to sell now. I smell the play offs.
