'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Keeper Chase Hots Up

Owls boss Paul Sturrock has revealed he has made three enquiries in to possible replacements for current on-loan stopper Brad Jones - whose deal is set to expire this month.

Wednesday will be left with just one first-team keeper when Brad Jones' three-month deal with the club comes to an end at the end of this month - and new loan rules mean the Owls can't extend his deal at Hillsborough.

And the Owls boss is set to spend time sitting by the phone as he looks to tie up a deal sooner rather than later.

He told Radio Sheffield: 'It's ongoing at the minute, we've got several targets in mind and we've talked to several clubs about the availability of their goalkeepers.'

Sturrock has been previously linked with moves for Russell Hoult, Mart Poom and Richard Wright before bringing Jones to the club before the Owls first match of the season at Preston North End.

how come you cannot extend the loan period on Jones , just wondered as we have Danny Mills for two months but we are allowed to extend if needs be ????

My understanding is that you can extend any loan deal UP UNTIL 3 MONTHS - thereafter you have to end the deal, and we got Jones on a three-month deal.

Ive heard Richard Wright too, would be happy with him but we need him for the full season. We cant get a consistent defence with three or four different keepers throughout a season.
