Young Manchester City man to join Owls

Young Manchester City defender George Swan is set to join Wednesday on loan.

The player announced the news on his personal Twitter account on Saturday, saying: 'Glad to be joining Sheffield Wednesday on loan on Monday. Going to be a great experience ! #swfc'

Swan, a centre back, has yet to feature for Manchester City's first team, playing mainly for their under-18s set-up and it's yet to be confirmed if he will join the Owls' Development Squad or first team squad.

The Wakefield-born player endured an injury-hit campaign last season but captained the club's under-18s side and was on the verge of a place in the Premier League club's reserve squad before suffering a knee injury.

He came through the youth ranks at Leeds United before moving across the Pennines, where he faces a tough task of breaking into City's first team given the club's spending on some of the best defenders in the world.

Tough getting into the Man City first team was it, when he goes back it will seem a breeze compared to getting into our first eleven. Another development squad player and with injury hit background, seems like knockout business to me, but what would I know.

Yet another mystery, these youth loans seem like musical chairs to me. I've just read that we've loaned out a 1st year pro & regular U21 centre back (McKenzie) to Gainsborough. Personally, I'd have thought playing in our Development Squad might be of greater benefit. Loan out to lower leagues, sure. But non-league? Dunno. But perhaps Bully needs to observe this 'out' before you 'in' policy and this Swan is considered a better prospect. Like, presumably, Savic is considered higher up the ol' foodchain that Dieseruvwe (apologies for spelling) who's just got farmed out to Hyde Utd.

It really is a telling comment when Donny can sign somebody like Macheda and we can't sign anyone to put the ball in the net.

If you check out DJ's comments on the BBC webpage, and read between the lines a bit, then what he's saying is: If our players were any better then they'd be playing for someone else. Nice to know.
