Owls Trialist Impresses

Owls trialist Sofiene Zaaboub will remain at Hillsborough for a further week after impressing Owls boss Paul Sturrock in a first week at Middlewood training ground.

The former FC Brussels defender arrived at Hillsborough at the start of the week after being recommended to Owls boss Paul Sturrock by the same agent who brought David Friio to Hillsborough when Sturrock was at Plymouth Argyle.

And the Frenchman seems to have impressed the Owls boss after taking part in training throughout the week and performing well in the Owls reserve team victory over Port Vale on Wednesday night.

Sturrock told the official SWFC site: 'We've decided to keep him here for the rest of the week. There were still parts of his game we couldn't see - for example, no one took him on. We'll have a look at him in training, he'll play in the reserve game on Tuesday and we'll make a decision on Wednesday.'

The 23-year-old is set to get another chances when the Owls reserve team take on Shrewsbury Town at Hillsborough on Tuesday. Zaaboub has already had trials at Preston Noth End, Plymouth Argyle and Swansea City after leaving FC Brussels recently.

And the Owls are desperate to get some much-needed cover at left-back following the injuries to Peter Gilbert, John Hills and Richard Wood. Youngster Tommy Spurr is currently filling in at left-back for the Owls.

sounds a good prospect for you ! ... who was your left back when you came to the KC ??

Tommy Spurr probably. He's a very good prospect but is very young and is a centre back playing out of position. Has been found out quite a few times this season thats why I think -PS is looking for someone else.

You need some more decent players in your squad, sounds like he could do a job. Hopefully you can sort out your league position soon.

I doubt he'll be demanding much wage wise if he's already had trials at four clubs so Id take him until the end of the season. It doesn't mean much when you have an unsuccessful trial, look at cantona with us! Hope he plays on grass ;)
