Hillsborough: Help Or Hindrance?

The latest poll on Vital Sheffield Wednesday is asking users whether the Hillsborough crowd are a help or a hindrance to the team on matchdays. Have YOUR say now!

The Owls are yet to win a home match this season and boss Paul Sturrock has already commented on the problems his team have been having on home soil not just this year - but over the past few years.

Wednesday go in to the South Yorkshire derby clash with rivals Barnsley at Hillsborough on Saturday as they bid to climb off the foot of the Championship with their first win of the campaign on S6.

But will the Owls crowd help or hinder the progression on Wednesday this Saturday afternoon? It's sure to be an electric atmosphere as the Oakwell club look set to bring nearly 5,000 to the Leppings Lane end as they face their 'cup final'.

Hillsborough can certainly be an intimidating place when the Owls fans turn up and sing their heart out for the lads. But this can often be too little too late.

Is it really up to the fans to make their own atmosphere, or do the players need to get the fans on the edge of their seats and build one up by giving as much on the pitch as the fans are giving off it?

its a shame if you are not getting behind the lads at such a great ground ... cannot wait until new years day to go back there , should be a great atmosphere !

Just keep behind you team all the way through the match and thats the best you can do for them.

The size of our crowd is great.. but there have been times when too many of them get on the players' backs. I can understand it sometimes when the play is crap but it doesn't help.

It is difficult at times. I work long shifts, and have to swap them sometimes to get to games, at the expense of seeing my family, so I feel i do have the right to have a go when they play as crap as they did against barnsley
