This week Colchester fan and Vital Colchester site journalist Deeno asnwers our questions as the Owls are all set to face Championship newboys Colchester United...
1. Whats your start to the season been like?
Our season didn`t start very well, although we never really looked out of our depth, silly mistakes were costing us dear, and without a win in the first month, you had to wonder what the season would hold. However the lads stuck with the hard work ethics and this has paid dividends in September, climbing up to 13th beating near neighbours Ipswich live on Sky TV and Geriant winning the Manager of the Month award.
2. What are Col U fans expectations for the coming season?
We were expecting a bit of a Dog Fight, we don`t have the resources to employ superstars however the Lads have been playing well together for a while, and if we can stave of injuries and sign a couple more good loan signings I believe we can finish way above the relegation zone.
3. What players have you brought in to improve since promotion?
We have Jamie Cureton who came on a free from Swindon, other than that to be honest we haven`t as we lost Neil Danns to Birmingham and Liam Chilvers to PNE, although Chris Barker currently on loan from Cardiff City has been excellent, and Kevin Mcleod signed from Swansea, but we havnt seen enough of him yet, although I am told he is a quality winger.
4. How do fans feel about Phil Parkinson?
I think a lot are bitter, however they know what he done for the club and for that they will be for ever grateful, people move on and I personally would love to thank Phil and wish him the best of luck.
5. And Gerraint Williams?
I love the way we play under Geriant, its all about pass and move, playing the game simple, building from the back and attacking without compromising the defensive side of the game at the same time, those that were sceptical seem to be coming round. The team are playing for him and it is obvious that they respect his decisions and get on with playing the game.
6. Your defence was outstanding last season - will they be key for you this season?
Yes, it has been already, games last month such as Burnley away had seen the defence attitude of the side stave of many a Burnley attack; this was the foundation of what turned out to be a good win away.
7. What are your strengths and weaknesses?
From the back, Aidan Davison a keeper with stacks of experience, in front of him we have Wayne Brown marshalling the back four which includes Greg Halford who will go on to a bigger club and will be household name in this country in the future, our midfield is the engine room of the team and you will need to stifle Izzet and Watson if you are to get anything out of the game. With Cureton up front we will always posses a threat. I have always though we are weak against set plays, and if we get drawn into a long ball game we tend to come off worse.
8. What's your most memorable Colchester v Owls match?
Has to be a opening day of the season a few years back, we outplayed you at Hillsborough to come away with the points.
9. If you could take one Wednesday player to Colchester who would it be and why?
Chris Brunt seems to get some good reviews, and I have heard some good things about him.
10. And if you could send one Colchester player to Wednesday who would it be and why?
I wouldn`t want to send you any to be fair, we need everyone we have got, but if you are looking for undoubted Talent, look no further that the aforementioned Halford he could do a Job anywhere on the pitch for you.
11. Who should the Wednesday fans be looking out for as a danger man?
Apart from the obvious Halford, Jamie Cureton I think will be a thorn in your side on Wednesday.
12. Hows Lawrie Wilson done since joining you?
Haven`t seen anything from Lawrie yet, the team has been settled, however I am sure we will.
13. What do you think the score will be?
To be honest I am confident when we are at home, I can see us winning this one by a couple of goals, Cureton with 2 and Izzet is due hitting the net, so 3-1 to the U`s!
Cheers Deeno! Good luck for the remained of the season. Next up - Who Are Yer?: QPR!
