A Worthy Manager?

A Worthy Manager?

Former Norwich City boss and Wednesday legend Nigel Worthington has revealed he's ready to sit down and talk with the Owls board about the manager's vacancy at Hillsborough.

The left-back left the Carrow Road club after a string of bad results saw the Canaries sitting in the wrong half of the Championship table early in the season - but Worthy is ready ready to sit down and listen to offers.

He told The Star: 'Sheffield Wednesday are a club for whom I have great respect. The overall situation would have to be right for Nigel Worthington and Sheffield Wednesday if there was to be any coming together.

'I have not put my name forward for the job and I have had no contact from anybody within the club. I wouldn't rule it out. I'm always prepared to listen.'

The former Leeds United and Notts County left-back guided Norwich to the promised land under during his reign in charge but since failed to win the City fans over with recent performances this season and the previous.

Worthington made a whopping 334 league starts for the Owls during his near-ten year stay with the club, scoring 12 goals along the way. He joined the club for £125,000 from Notts County in 1984 before leaving the club for rivals Leeds United in 1994.

Meanwhile, the Owls are set to name the caretaker manager for Wednesday's weekend clash with QPR this afternoon.

Big Ron is never going to happen is it, unless he's looking over someone younger in charge, such as Pearson. I agree though, Worthington doesn't fill me with much confidence after hearing what the Norwich fans had to say.

I hope they don't go for Worthington he hasn't been able to turn Norwich around and they have a better squad of players than Wednesday have.
