Owls Cotterill Approach Rejected

Championship rivals Burnley have rejected an approach from Wednesday to talk to boss Steve Cotterill about the vacant manager's post at Hillsborough following the sacking of Paul Sturrock.

Burnley chairman Barry Kilby confirmed on the official Clarets website that Wednesday had made an approach for the former Stoke City and Cheltenham manager on Friday morning which was instantly turned down - and refused to make any further comment.

The Owls have been looking to appoint a new man at the helm following the shock sacking of boss Paul Sturrock, with chairman Dave Allen revealing the search for a new manager would commence immediately.

Cotterill has taken the Lancashire club to an impressive fifth in the Championship this season on a shoestring budget - which could well have been one of the factors in the approach, with the Owls financial status in a precarious situation.

His record at Burnley after 118 games in charge is 41 won, 44 lost and 33 drawn. He took charge of Stoke City for just 13 games winning only three during that time after impressing with Cheltenham from 1997 to 2002.

Academy manager Sean McAuley and goalkeeping coach Billy Mercer will take charge of the Owls team for today's clash with QPR and until a new permanent manager is appointed.

Suppose he's in a similar position to us cash wise, but not 100% sure he's the man for the job. Would he want to come to us anyway?
