Gray: Owls' quality shone through

Caretaker manager Stuart Gray said the Owls' higher-division quality shone through in their FA Cup Third Round replay victory over Macclesfield Town at Hillsborough on Tuesday night.

Non-league Macclesfield had the tie in the balance when Scott Boden levelled a Chris Maguire opener from the spot in the second half and also saw a chance to take the lead come back off the woodwork. But goals from Jacques Maghoma, Jermaine Johnson and Miguel Llera sealed the Owls' progression in emphatic fashion.

"We did what we had to do and the quality shone through in the end, and credit to the players for that,' Gray told the official SWFC website.

"They weathered the storm and went on to score three more goals. But I said to them at half time that Macclesfield will have a ten-minute spell when they will throw everything at us - they did so but we overcame that and proved our quality.'

The result means the Owls have now scored ten goals in four days, with the cup success following hot-on-the-heels of big 6-0 thrashing of Yorkshire rivals Leeds United.

"That`s 12 goals now in three games at Hillsborough and we`re entertaining the home fans, which is important,' Gray said.

"And the pleasing thing tonight was, once again we have spread the goals around, with four different goalscorers."

Wednesday bagged another four without the services of star man Connor Wickham, who was unable to play as part of his loan deal from Sunderland, and Caolan Lavery, but both will be back in contention for Saturday's trip to Burnley.

Apparently Brighton after Wickham, please MM buy him for us, it would be a superb investment, you'd get your money back on season ticket sales alone
