Gray thanks Arsenal for Afobe loan

Wednesday boss Stuart Gray has thanked Arsenal for allowing young striker Benik Afobe to move to Hillsborough on loan.

Afobe made the switch to South Yorkshire before last weekend's last-gasp win over Barnsley, in which he made his debut, and has made a big impact since his arrival.

The striker scored his first goal for the Owls and also won a penalty in the 2-0 win against Reading, one of his former loan clubs, in the Championship on Saturday.

And Gray is delighted to have the 20-year-old board. 'I'm grateful to Arsenal for letting us have Afobe,' he said. 'He's got real talent and caused Reading a lot of problems with his pace and power.'

Afobe was brought in to plug the gap left by Connor Wickham, who had a successful loan spell at S6 but was recalled by Sunderland last month.
