Who Are Yer?: Wolves

This week Vital Sheffield Wednesday talks to Wolves fan Nikki about their start to the season, Mick McCarthy, Kenny Miller and much more ahead of the Owls' visit to Molineux this weekend.

--------------------------------------------

1. Whats your start to the season been like?

Excellent given the circumstances. We find ourselves joint fourth, and considering that we were all expecting a relegation battle (due to the number of players that had left) we are doing very well, excluding the 3-0 loss to our neighbours WBA last Sunday.

2. Have there been many ins and outs over the summer?

12 players out (Miller, Lescott, Seol, Naylor, Kennedy and Ince to name a few) with 9 coming in (most noticably Jay Bothroyd, Jemal Johnson and midfielder Karl Henry). We lost our parachute payments meaning we had to sell our key assets and release some squad players, and have spent only around £250k on reinforcements, who quite frankly are doing better than the so-called stars we had last season!

3. How big a loss has Kenny Miller been?

We're having trouble scoring goals at the moment and no doubt Miller would have helped us. He was a good player, a goal poacher, but in the grand scheme of things other players were bigger losses - see Joleon Lescott who is unsuprisingly doing a superb job for Everton.

4. What do you think to Mick McCarthy?

Mick's done a great job considering the little money and time he's had. He's got us playing a straight forward 4-4-2 (which believe me, after the baffling formations of Hoddle seems a giant step forward!), with passion and commitment which is all we can ask for. The fans are totally behind him at the moment and it's nice to have an honest manager for a change.

5. I notice Maurice Ross is no longer on your squad list - what happened to him?

He actually did pretty well towards the end of last season, one of the few to come out with any credit whatsoever. However he was one of the few players we had to release in the summer to cut the wage bill down and I he's now down in League 1 with Millwall.

6. Who are your danger men?

Definetly our frontmen Bothroyd and Johnson. Although with not too many goals between them, Johnson is always a real livewire upfront and has electrifying pace, whereas Bothroyd has the ability to produce a bit of magic out of nothing.

7. What are your weaknesses?

The lack of goals scored, apparantly Wednesday have scored less than us infact! Despite the promising signs from our strikers we're having a real problem with finding the back of the net and we've only scored more than one goal in a game once this season (a 2-0 win against Stoke).

8. If you could take one Wednesday player to Wolves who would it be and why

Chris Brunt. Though I'm told he can be inconsistant, the lack of goals from midfield is also a worry and I know he has the tendancy to score some belters.

9. And if you could send one Wolves player to Wednesday who would it be and why?

Leon Clarke flatters to decieve. Think back to Adam Proudlock and you pretty much have your description, though he does show signs of improvement.

10. What do you make of our chances this season?

If the new manager comes in and lifts the place then it's quite likely with a few results you could find yourselves pushing for the play offs, however I'll go for mid-to- lower table.

11. Finally, what's your score prediction?

You shocked us at Molineux last season but sitting on the fence I'll go with a 1-1 draw.

--------------------------------------------

Thanks for taking the time out to speak to Vital Sheffield Wednesday, Nikki, and good luck to Wolves for the rest of the season!

Good read. I thought wolves fans may be a bit more optimistic for a win. We are struggling afterall and aren't wolves up near the top?
