Caretaker Month: An Idea

Vital Sheffield Wednesday contributor Mark Hollins returns to give us his weekly view on all things Wednesday...

10 from 12 or 4 from 2...

'Change is hard because people overestimate the value of what they have—and underestimate the value of what they may gain by giving that up.'

Now I know this is quicker off the draw than Clint Eastwood but no one highlights the wisdom in a managerial change than a caretaker.

One thing that we should introduce here at Hillsborough is 'caretaker month`. When one of our many future managers is underperforming they get suspended for a month without pay and a caretaker comes in to mix things up…. Think Shreeves/Yorath - great results as caretakers, not so good as full timers.

This ridiculous suggestion would have seen us keep KPS! (This would please many owls, not me I`m afraid)

Let`s face it, something had to happen. We were terrible and in the fast lane to League 1, the injuries etc were real excuses but we had enough players to at the very least challenge Colchester. DA was/is going no where so the next step is to off your manager. One of the main issues making re-appointing Sturrock the 'dream` is the calibre of people out there. I`d take King Kev any day, just because of what he`d do for the gates, would`ve liked to see what Dave Penny could`ve done and maybe Laws is the way forward… he just reminds me scarily of Turner… He is pre approved by Martin O`Neill though…

Saturday pre match for me was a no brainer on paper - Wolves romp.

But with the enigma that is Sean McAuley, armed with caretaker status, Wednesday were a slightly more attractive bet.

2-2! Not bad by anyone`s standards at fortress Molineux and the fact they`d stormed their last three home games makes it that bit more impressive.

I am increasingly worried about Magic and, as I`ve said previously, seeing Woody and Cocko might give him a kick up the behind.

Brunt myster general pinches another goal in his run for top scorer again, Deon Burton is the least effective striker I`ve seen and Wade Small, should he continue this form, is quite a revelation.

Lets hope Brad Jones gets a kind coinless send off on Tuesday but I have to say I`m not sorry to see a change in keeper… Mike Pollit would be a cracking acquisition!

I fear a Palace backlash potentially in front of a new gaffer if something is rushed through… hopefully not

An optimistic 2-1 Wednesday!

I thnk its sad, how when a manager leaves a club the supporters hate them. Is it not a complimenet to the club that someone else wants your Manager
viking phil
