Former Owl makes Barnsley move

Former Wednesday player Keith Treacy has returned to South Yorkshire after penning a two-year deal with neighbours Barnsley.

The former Owls loan man has been plying his trade on the other side of the Pennines with Burnley but will line-up at Oakwell when the new season kicks-off this weekend.

Treacy spent three-months aiding Wednesday's promotion push from League 1 in 2012, bagging one goal along the way.

He was released by the Clarets this summer when his contract at Turf Moor came to an end and the Tykes have acted quickly to bolster their squad with the former Blackburn Rovers man.

It will be third club in South Yorkshire Treacy has represented after also playing for Sheffield United.

A cautionary tale and a lesson there to be learnt for all 'fringe' players currently enjoying salaries close to PL level: Happy to run down your contract? Think your next move will set you and your agent up for life? Well if you're serious about football, lower your sights or less you'll most likely end up at Barnsley. Who have they got lined up next - Lita?
