Owls handed Manchester City cup clash

Wednesday will face Premier League champions Manchester City in the third round of the Capital One Cup.

The Owls' reward for coming through their second round clash at top-flight Burnley is another trip across the Pennines but, with all respect to the Clarets, a much tougher task lies in wait.

City enter the competition in the next round alongside the teams involved in European competition and are one of the favourites to lift the trophy this season.

Stuart Gray's side, who also saw off Notts County in the first round, will have to cause one of the upsets of the competition if they are to progress.

The ties will be played in the week commencing September 22 and the match could be one selected for live TV coverage.

Just a pity we've been drawn away. Still, it's a glamorous tie and I'm struggling to recall the last one to come even close. Ordinarily I'd say it was only Cit-eh but they just happen to be PL champs and League Cup holders these days and their laundry bill is probably twice our current transfer budget... but so what! It's a cup tie. With my optimism hat firmly in place I can see that old vampire having his bloodshots fixed on the Champions League and resting most of his first XI after their game vs Chelsea the previous Sunday. I'd also like to think our fans make the short hop over the Pennines in huge numbers and create the kind of atmosphere guaranteed to make our lads play out of their skins. I'm talking Cardiff/ play-off final proportions. Or, alternatively, Sky TV will choose the game for Wednesday night and everyone will stay at home - much like this coming Saturday lunchtime? Damn you, Murdoch!

Any chance we may sign Imre Viradi for this one

Judging by our away form, we can do this. Then watch all the supposed supporters crawl out of the woodwork.Onwards an upwards.

This is great, really gets us going and yes we can a result, Stevie May sneaking in at the far post or bouncing off the Nuhiu's back. We can do it

The curse of the cameras again. How come every umpire we get lately is a total twonk, his touch judge with the yellow flag doesn't know the offside rule and a visiting manager who should have been sent to the stand Nuff said. Totally *****ed off after a decent display spoiled by the pathetic officials.

Just youtubed the guy Claude Dielna and check it our for yourselfs he does look a decent player. We don't know the quality of the opposition ofcourse. He seems to be a superstar off the pitch also in his native country HHHMMMM. He must be slotting in at left back because although you can't fault Mattocks attitude and commitment he is not up to the standard really is he. The poor lad offered us nothing on Saturday going forward and struggles in posssesion. Back to being a squad player in my opinion. Just want a right back now and a couple of quality midfielders. We have to move on from Buxton who is not going to be reliable anymore and Palmer should be fufilling his potential in his real role Midfieldish. Will Mandaric finally come to the party on this deadline day !!!!!!?????

Hang about though, doesn't Transfer Deadline Day clash with some obscure Serbian Bank Holiday or sommat? Besides, I was fully prepared for the usual anticlimax before Radio Pig announced at 9.55am that there'd be nowt doing. Up until then I'd been keeping one eye on events at Blackburn. Y'know, apparently neck deep in the smelly stuff and yet determined to keep hold of Andy Rhodes' lad at any cost. Well they just paid Everton around 1.5m for a defender and hope to sign a goalie as well. Hmm... Kirkland part-ex for Ben12? Could it? Nah. Could it though...?
