'If It's Football, It's Vital'

The Future's Blue and White!

Wednesday-mad Mark Hollins returns to Vital Sheffield Wednesday to have his latest rant, or rather rave, about all things blue and white...

--------------------------------------------

'It doesn't hurt to be optimistic. You can always cry later.'

How many times have we been here? - Countless...

How many times have we moved forward not back in these situations? - Very few...

The two above statements and answers pretty much sum up the relevance of today`s quote.

The BEST and WORST thing about being a Wednesdayite - loving the optimism, hating the impending realism.

It seems, even though amongst us are many many realist, we can never escape or fail to, in some way, get caught up in seemingly unrealistic speculation of immense possibility.

I for one, as a mix, can only see '3 points from the playoffs' through my vision blurred by the statement '7 points from relegation'.

We all love a good run. Love it. But for me a good run ensures some kind of end reward, clear from relegation, for example. It's too early for the current run to fully influence the season, the next defeat is going to be immensely crucial. It`s a case of either get it out of the way and get beat now, pick ourselves up and get on (not ideal), get beat in a couple of games time resulting in a potential confidence crisis over the busy festive period and get over it from then or go undefeated until January(ish) and ensure safety leaving us with an uninteresting finish to the season.

Which ever way we decide to go, (I say decide like I think we have a choice ;)), it will never, I feel, effect the optimism/realism balance of our support. For once I wish we could all be naive and optimistic moving forward with the confidence we have gained over the last 5 or 6 games - buzzing crowd, big gates, players BUSTING to get on the pitch and just an all round merry owls xmas.

I think victory, maybe even a draw, at Coventry on Saturday will sway many of our support base into an optimistic mood, what better time?! Defeat and unfortunately I can see a struggle, both on and off the field.

This football lark is all about managing your expectations - If we win on Saturday and edge closer to the play offs I`ll be smiling no doubt. If we lose… well I kind of expected that to happen so there will be no real heart ache there…. Promise ;)

Who knows what we have here in Mr Laws...Who knows...

I`m optimistic, are you?

The futures' bright, the future's Blue and White.

Enjoy.

Mark

P.S. Let`s forget about Allen for a while, he`s a pointless effort, like everything in life, ignorance is bliss.
