Who Are Yer?: Cardiff City

Cardiff City fan 'JohnSmithsGrangeEnd' (from the Bluebirds forum) is questioned by Vital Sheffield Wednesday this week ahead of the clash at Hillsborough...

1. You must be delighted with your start to the season?

Without a doubt, In the 10 years i've watched Cardiff i've never seen us play football as good as we're doing so far, I think we're also the top scorers in the league or at least one of the top. So we're playing fanatastic attractive football and are top of the league aswell, What more can you ask for?

2. Are you punching above your weight or were your aims at the start of the season to be up there?

At the start of the season most people thought where we would finish would depend a lot on weather we signed Jason Koumas, when we failed in that i think most people would have been happy with competiting for the play-offs, I don't think anyone expected us to be top of the league approching December.

3. Dave Jones must be a kind of messiah?

We've signed a lot of new faces over the last 2, But this man is the best signing we've made by a mile, Players like Micheal Chopra and Darren Purse have chosen us over much bigger lubs because Dave jones 'sold them the club' Gone are the days where Lennie Lawerence played unproductive football, at teh moment DJ is king.

4. I've heard of the grapevine that if you do get promotion you won't be allowed in to the Premiership because of the standing at your ground - any truth to this?

No, I think we'll be okay as we're building a new ground, All thats been said is that we may have to replace the terracing with seating which will bring our capacity down toabout 14000 i'd imagine but we would be allowed.

5. We were after Kevin McNaughton in the pre-season, hows he done since arriving?

Absolutly fantastic, and i'm not trying to rub it in Wednesday fans but he's a different class, I don't think i've seen him have a bad game, If you want consistancy on your left he's your man.

6. Who's your danger man/men?

Micheal Chopra is a name i'm sure Wednesday fans will regonise and you only have to look at the league goalscoring charts to see why he's a danger man, but Paul Parry is a name you may not be familar with, he's our right winger and has been reborn this season after 2 years of injury trouble.

7. What are your weaknesses?

We have a small squad, On saturday presuming we don't get any late loan deals in we'll be starting with 17 year old Chris Gunter at right back in only his 2nd every league game, Not saying he's a bad player because he has a lot of potential but teams at the top of the league shouldn't need to use players from thier youth team. Apart from our wingers we don't have strength in depth in any postion, a couple of suspensions and injuries could ruin us.

8. How many will you be bringing up to Hillsborough at the weekend? I expect spirits are high in the City camp at the moment!

You would think so, but unfortanatly Cardiff like the rest of Wales is a rugby city, We attracted 13000 at QPR on friday out of a possible 20000, why? Wales were playing canada in an friendly match at the millenium stadium in rugby. Personally i can't understand it but its always been the same. I think we've been given 1500 for your place i'd expect 1200 to makethe trip which is a fair lot considering the distance. You can be assured the ones who do turn up will make a noise!

9. Jerome or Chopra?

Chopra, and thats not being bitter, Jerome when his head is screwed on is a big talent, but he has a big ego and think he's a lot better than he actually is, When bigger clubs started sniffing last January, His form dropped and he became lazy and unintrested, 4m for Camoran Jerome or 200k for Micheal Chopra its not a difficult choice.

10. What's your most memorable Owls v Cardiff game?

Last season 3-1 at your place, Jason Koumas scoring a header and Jerome showing what he can do when his head is screwed on. 3-0 up at half time it was a footballing masterclass, We let you into in the second half out of pity ;-).

11. What do you make of our chances this season?

If we're still top or there about come january we should go up, With Risdale taking over we've been promised 2m to stregthen the squad, DJ can work miricles with 500k never mind 2m. Then again i am aware this is Peter Risdale talking and your 'friends' actoss yorkshire know all about him.

12. And what do you think the score will be?

Your on good form, we've goen a bit iffy, But hey when your top of the league you've got to be confidant. 2-0 to the bluebirds with Chopra and Scimeca hitting the net.

CHEERS mate! Good luck for the rest of the season - I'm sure you'll love the Premiership if you make it, so make the most of it!
