Defend (attack) Defend: Top Draw!

Vital Sheffield Wednesday contributor Mark Hollins returns with his weekly musings over the weekend draw with Cardiff City and looks forward to the clash with the Baggies!

'And with 4 minutes gone, the score is already 0-0.'
(IAN DARK)

I`ve often heard the old "fine wine" statements used when a useful goalkeeping display has been presented, rightly so.

Evidence has always been there that keepers get better… or smarter… with age.

Aside from 1 near fatal error, not entirely his own wrong doing, Mark Crossley was top draw.

Lee Bullen was also top draw.

The result, it has to be said with our noted absentees….. top draw.

What is hard to remember when you support a team who is second in the league form table is that when it comes to playing the best in the division, form is not enough to get a result. A few weeks ago no one would have considered this a 3 point opportunity. Saturday possibly was but, without our settled side, a new right wing striker and an out of form left winger, a point was more than acceptable.

Cardiff themselves have hit a bit of a drought, but they are still top despite two wins in seven. That highlights their form over the season so far and shows how valuable, over the course, results like this are.

They were the more threatening, you have to give them that, will they go up?... I`d say so.

I mustn`t take anything away from our resurgent warriors though, we had our chances. Darting runs from defence, nippy right wing, D D D D Deon Burton (just needs one doesn`t he).

A fair good draw.

Did anyone notice that the ref seem to have the whistle stuck in his throat? Let it flow Dowdy!

With the atmosphere gradually creeping back through the Hillsborough turnstiles I can see us becoming quite a force at home this season, Saturday saw our first home clean sheet, again a pointer to our recent improvements.

As we look to West Brom I think a win should be in sight, they`re not having the best of times of late.

Still, to quote the philosophical Paul Gascoigne - 'I never make predictions, and I never will`….

Wednesday 2 - 1 West Brom
