'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Manager's Musings: Post-WBA

Owls boss Brian Laws pointed towards his side's 'brilliant' first half performance as the factor which helped him pick up his first victory as Owls boss on home soil against West Brom on Tuesday night.

Goals from Glenn Whelen, Madjid Bougherra and sub Steve Maclean saw Wednesday deservedly pick up all three points against Tony Mowbray's men - who've yet to win away from home since him taking charge.

Laws told the official SWFC site: 'Our first half performance won us the game. We pressed the ball so well, got at West Brom and didn't allow them to settle. We won the ball in the right areas and counter-attacked so well.'

Laws went on to praise his side's work rate in the second half as the Baggies came out looking sharper after the break in search of goals: 'We knew they'd change things and we'd have to dig deep. We've shown we can match people as long as we're prepared to work as hard as that.'

And Laws, along with the 3,000 Wednesday fans who make the trip to the Walkers Stadium, will be hoping whichever eleven men take to the field against Leicester City on Saturday will continue their fine form in search of another three points.

He said: 'There were lots of plusses tonight. After the game I've asked the players if they can take that into the Leicester game.'
