Owls Duo Rewarded

Owls duo Chris Brunt and Glenn Whelan have been rewarded for their impressive performances (and goals) against Leicester City at the weekend by being included in the first Championship Team of the Week of December.

The youngsters made up half of the midfield after Brunt netted from the spot and scored a spectacular second in the 4-1 rout over the Foxes while Glenn Whelan matched Brunt's second goal with a fine solo effort which was arguably the best goal of the season so far for the Owls.

The reward comes as a welcome boost for the Republic of Ireland under-21 international who was only playing in the absence of the suspended Kenny Lunt.

And it follows on from his midweek goal in the 3-1 victory over West Brom after being recalled to the side to replace the injured Yoann Folly - and also after Owls boss Brian Laws insisted he was a vital part of his squad.

The full team is as follows:

GK: Dean Kiely
RB: Richard Duffy
LB: Gareth Bale
CB: Matthew Upson
CB: Paul Reid
LM: Chris Brunt
RM: Glenn Whelan
CM: Stephen Clemence
CM: Steve Robinson
ST: Grzegorz Rasiak
ST: Daniel Nardiello
