Whelan To Miss Brum

Wednesday midfielder Glenn Whelan will miss the visit of table-toppers Birmingham City at the weekend as he sits out a one-match suspension for collecting five yellow cards this season.

The Republic of Ireland U21 international has been in inspirational form of late since the arrival of Brian Laws and has kept his place in the first-team since coming in to the side in the clash with West Brom.

But he will now have to sit out the mouth-watering clash against Steve Bruce's men after picking up his fifth booking of the season in the Owls' 2-1 victory over Norwich at the weekend.

The news means Wednesday boss Brian Laws is likely to welcome Yoann Folly back to the midfield alongside Kenny Lunt after the Frenchman was left out in favour of the return of Lunt at Carrow Road on Saturday.

Whelan was yellow carded in the Owls' opening fixture of the season at Preston and has also received booking's in the clashes with Plymouth Barnsley and West Brom ahead of Saturday's match.
