Young Owls' Cup Despair

Wednesday U18s crashed out of the FA Youth Cup in the third round as a goal either side of half time saw Bolton progress to the next round at Hillsborough on Tuesday night.

A weakened Owls youth team fell behind just before the break as Sam Liversidge brought down Bolton's Robert Sissons in the box to allow Scott Jamieson to net from the spot and give the visitors the half-time advantage.

The goal lifted Bolton and they came out all guns blazing in the second period before duly doubling their lead on the hour mark as Leslie Thompson produced a fine finish to secure the victory.

Wednesday pushed forward in search of goals and David McClements had the best chance as he hit the woodwork with a fine long-range effort. But the Trotters held on to their lead to progress to round four of the prestigious competition.

Wednesday: O'Donnell; McMenamin, Liversidge, Beevers, Kay; McClements, Stothard (Tawton 60), Boden (Connelly 81), Lekaj; Nyoni (Mulligan 60), Mohammed. Subs: Jameson, Worsfold.

Bolton: Lainton; Cassidy, Ellis, Charlesworth (Gbemie 75), Stokes; Woolfe, Sissons, Jamieson (Roddy 69), Thompson (Brooks 74); Sheridan (Obadeyi 64), Wolze. Subs: Brocklehurst.

Shame they got knocked out so early in the competition but hopefully they can concentrate on league matters and do well in that!
