Wharton Warns Laws

Scunthorpe United chairman Steve Wharton has warned Brian Laws off taking United duo Billy Sharp and Andy Keogh with him to Hillsborough - by insisting they are going nowhere.

The strike duo - who have lit the League One scoring charts alive this season to help the Iron to the promotion places - have been hotly linked with a move away from Glanford Park.

And Owls boss Brian Laws is sure to take an interest in his former frontmen as the January transfer window is set to re-open - but his former employer has issued a 'hands off' warning to any interested parties.

He said: 'I can't believe for one moment that we will part with Billy Sharp. It would be nice not to be in debt but it would be much worse not to have Billy and Andy Keogh.

'There will come a time when it is unfair to stop their progress but not in the middle of a season.

'We would really hate to see the team broken up before it has got promoted. There is a terrific spirit within the squad and I can't believe these two players would not want to stay and give their all to get promotion for this club this season.'

Any price tag for the duo is likely to be out of reach of Wednesday's limited budget - but Laws is sure to point out the class the pair possess to Owls' chairman Dave Allen in the coming weeks.

Both excellent players. How would Sharp go down seeing as he's an exBlade?
