Owls Open Spurr Talks

Owls boss Brian Laws has revealed he is set to sit down for talks with highly-rated youngster Tommy Spurr over a new contract at the club.

The 19-year-old has been impressive for the Owls of late deputising for the injured John Hills at left-back - and is set to be rewarded with a new contract after impressing the new Wednesday boss.

Laws told the official site: 'I've agreed it with the chairman and we're looking to offer a new contract to Tommy. He has done superbly well.'

Spurr was expected to be used as back-up this season but injuries and suspensions have meant he's made 15 league appearances for the club - with his last two games resulting in a 4-1 victory away at Leicester and a 2-1 win away at Norwich.

The academy product played at the centre of defence for the youth team but has thus far been used at left-back to deputise for John Hills and the injured Peter Gilbert. But Spurr could yet get a chance to impress at centre-back as the deal looks set to be agreed over the Christmas period.
