Wood Set For Return

Wednesday defender Richard Wood has revealed that he hopes to be back involved with first team affairs in the New Year after sitting out through injury.

The 21-year-old Wakefield-born defender has been sidelined for over ten months after picking up a groin injury in the 0-0 draw with Crystal Palace at Hillsborough in February.

Wood was expected back at the start of the current campaign but further injuries have kept putting his return date back - but the defender is all set to make his return in the reserve clash with Stoke City on Janaury 10.

His return will be a welcome boost to Wednesday boss Brian Laws who will have a rare selection of defenders at his disposal with Graham Coughlan occupying the bench because of the fine form of Madjid Bougherra and captain Lee Bullen at the heart of the Owls' defence.

Wood has made 72 league appearances for the Owls after coming through the club's youth system. He impressed last season alongside Graham Coughlan and is highly-rated to be a big hit at Hillsborough.

great news for us he will add competition for players. maybe he could do with going out on loan for a bit though?

What position does he play?

Centre half. A popular lad down at Hillsborough.

We need him in the squad, as Coughlan is going back to Plymouth in Janurary. My local shopkeeper is originally from Plymouth, and knew Graham in his Plymouth days, and bumped into him at Sheffield Childrens hospital when the players were on their annual visit. Coughlan said he and Brian Laws had not hit it off, and The Owls have already agreed a deal with Plymouth in Janurary.
