Vital Sheffield Wednesday talks to Saints fan Matty G ahead of Saturday's clash - we talk promotion, George Burley, and Kenwyne Jones...
-------------------------------------------
1. You're fourth in the league at the moment - are you happy enough with that?
Yes, if you offered me 4th at the end of the season, i'd bite your hand off. To be honest though we just need to find some sort of consistency. Basically i'd be happy with the play-offs this season as we have made a few signings and gelling together is the important part in building up for the automatic push next season.
2. Do you fancy your chances of promotion this season?
No, i can't see it happening myself. We're not good enough to get to automatic and if we got into the play-offs i think we would flounder because we're the type of team who will lose their bottle. I mean as i said above the big push is next season and even if we didn't make the play-offs, it wouldn't be the end of the world aslong as we finished in the top 10.
3. What's your away form like this season?
Indfiferent and certainly unpredictable, before this season we hadn't won away from after gonig behind for something like 11 years, yet this season we've done it on more than 1 occasion. We also seem to have a problem with under-estimating teams when we go away and so far we've lost as places like Notts County, Colchester and Southend, Leicester and no offence to those teams, but if we're wanting to go up those are the teams you need to beat.
4. What are your thoughts on George Burley?
Difficult one that. He came here with quite frankly one of the best track records around and was a major coup. But, his signings in my eyes leave a lot to be desired, i mean at the end of the day he had £7m to spend, but as far as i can see he has ended up buying his 'pals' if you like, Jermain Wright, who he'll never drop and play him whatever position aslong as he plays, Idiakez, Skacel the list goes on. I also wonder about his desire because after the Southend game where we played something worse than awful he only came out and said 'we were unlucky'. When in actual fact we weren't and in my eyes he needed to give them a rollocking. Having said all of this though we've had something ridiculous like 10 managers in 11 years or something like that and boy do we need consistency and with no-one better to replace, i certainly won't be calling for his head (bar a disaster).
5. How's former Owls-loanee Kenwyne Jones doing?
I think Kenwyne is brilliant personally, but i'm sure others will disagree. He's young, pacy, good header of the ball. His finishing may well be slightly off key at time, but he can learn. So, i think he has the makings of a great striker, i like him.
6. There's a big fuss about Gareth Bale, how big is he going to be?
Big.....He keeps making his headlines for his free-kicks, but well his defending is just as good. Plays with maturity beyond his years. If only he was English.
7. Who are your danger men?
Rasiak - I don't like him and think he's useless, but he sticks the ball in the back of the net and purely for that reason, he's a danger.
Jones - He's big and powerful, definitely a handle.
Pele - He's been at the heart of our midfield, without him we're buggered i'd saty.
8. What are your weaknesses?
Out wide, we just can't deal with teams sticking to the wings and then as neither of our centre-backs are pretty tall, we're vulnerable. We're also vulnerable if you run at the defence, it's like the parting of the red sea. Another tip shoot at Davis, he may well make some good saves, but he is prone to a clanger.
9. What do you think of our chances this season?
Bottom end of mid-table.
10. What's your most memorable Owls v Saints match?
Can't remember any off the top of my head (laughs), but it was nice to win 3-0 last season because noramlly when we're in that position we end up throwing goals away left, right and centre. So, it was nice to relax for the last 2 minutes of injury time (laughs)
11. What do you think the score will be?
Sheffield Wednesday 2-0 Southampton, enjoy.

Cheers Matty, and good luck on Saturday and for the rest of the season!
