Manager's Musings: Pre-Saints

Wednesday boss Brian Laws hope's his side can give the Hillsborough faithful some early Christmas cheer on Saturday as George Burley's Saints ride into town.

Southampton are one of the form sides of the division alongside Wednesday and Birmingham City - but Laws will be wanting to sweep them aside on Saturday and get back to winning ways as they enter the hectic Christmas fixture pile-up.

'Southampton are on a good run and they travel well,' Laws told the official SWFC site.

'They have real quality on the ball and have been scoring a lot from set pieces so we'll have to be mindful of that and try not to concede silly free-kicks around our penalty area.

'We will concentrate on our own performance and let them worry about us,' he said. 'If we can get the result right today it will set us up nicely for the next week or so, where the games come thick and fast.'

The Saints are currently marching in fourth in the Championship after an impressive first-half to the campaign under George Burley - and with just four points the margin from the automatic promotion spots, they'll be keen to keep in touch with a result in S6.

But, such is the tightness at throughout the division, a win for the Owls could take Brian Laws' men to within just three points of the south coast side - it's sure to be a Christmas cracker.
