Barton Misses Owls Clash

There will be one less Premiership star on show in the Owls FA Cup Third Round clash with Manchester City next month - with City midfielder Joey Barton suspended for the trip to Hillsborough.

The highly-rated midfielder was dismissed by referee Mike Riley for his late lunge at Bolton striker Abdoulaye Faye in City's 2-1 home defeat by Sam Allardyce's men this month.

And Barton will now miss City's next three matches after losing out on his appeal against the decision this afternoon - with the Owls clash coming as the final match of his suspension.

The news will be a big blow to City and fans turning out at Hillsborough to see Stuart Pearce's stars on show - but will surely be a big boost to Brian Laws and his men as they look to progress in the prestigious competition.

The clash takes place at Hillsborough on Sunday, January 7 (kick-off 3pm) with tickets still available from the Owls Ticket Office. Season ticket holders can claim their own seat until Friday, December 29.
