Weaver Relishing Owls Clash

Manchester City goalkeeper and Wednesday fan Nicky Weaver says he is relishing a return to Hillsborough to play against his former team-mates in the FA Cup Third Round on Sunday.

Weaver spent three successful months on loan at Hillsborough last season to play out his boyhood dream of running out in front of the Kop - a dream that helped him secure a return to the City first-team at the start of the current campaign.

And although City's improved form over the Christmas break has already seen Stuart Pearce's men collect a victory in the red and white side of Sheffield - Weaver is expecting a tough challenge against the Owls come Sunday afternoon.

He told GiveMeFootball: 'The three wins over Xmas have really turned around our season. I know Wednesday are flying but on our day we fancy ourselves against anyone. They got a great result against Stoke but they had a setback against Hull, so it should be interesting.

'As I say, on our day we can beat anybody, so if we beat Wednesday and get a couple of good draws after that, who knows how far we can go in the cup.'

And the 27-year-old will also be expecting a tough time from his family and friends should he contribute to City's progression to the next round of the prestigious competition.

'The minute the draw was made my phone went crazy. Some of the Wednesday lads texted me as well as loads of my mates outside the game. I'm a big Wednesday fan and so it's a nice tie for me.' he continued.
